There was a time when child actors were roped in Indian Television dailies just for an eye candy. They were used to bring in some freshness, charm and exuberance in the show. But those who thought they can’t do more… think again. A child is said to be father to a man and rightfully so, we see a new era in television where these child actors have proved that not only are they capable of showcasing their acting skills with ease but can get you TRP’s you could have only imagined. They have carved a respectable niche for themselves and have a huge fan following from all age groups.
So much so that storyline of shows are fabricated to bring them in the forefront. This revolution was most strengthened by launch of Colors’ Balika Vadhu which went on to become one of the most successful shows on Indian Television till date. It’s hard to say if this show had brought fame to Avika Gor aka Anandi and Avinash Mukherjee aka Jagdish or this little bundle of talent had created a brand name for Colors’ TV.
The audiences loved them and the channel got TRP it was looking forward to. To further bask in the glory, another show based on childhood friendship and jealously named Uttaran was launched by the channel which introduced us to Sparsh Khanchandani aka Iccha. She was last seen in Sony TV’Parvarish – Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi. It seems that Bhavya Gandhi aka Tappu of SAB TV’Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah reached his adolescence on television only. We have seen 1100 plus episodes of entire Tappu sena growing up with us since July 2008.
Success of these shows not only brought diversity in content for the channel as well as the audiences, it brought critical acclaims and also opened gateways for fresh talents. The production houses were taking leaps in ongoing shows to make way for entry of child artists in the show or were deliberately delaying the impending leap in their shows due to their central child actors fan following. Today our shows seem incomplete without these little wonders and so would be our article if we don’t talk about some of current child actors on Indian Television.
According to me, one of the cutest and cuddliest child actors is Dhriti Bhatia who waslast seen as Krishna in Jai Shri Krishna and Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. But then how can we forget our reigning sweetheart Amruta Mukherjee aka Peehu of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. The show became more popular after her entry. This chubby 5 years old enjoys her stardom a lot and wants to become a teacher when she grows up.
Ashnoor Kaur made her acting debut with Zee TV’ Jhansi Ki Rani and reached new scales with portrayal of Nanhe, a very sensible and mature child inNa Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha.No wonder the adult Nanhe of season 2 had tough time getting audience’s acceptability post Ashnoor. With a very strong performance in Jai Jag Janani Maa Durga she has yet again proved her acting mantle.
Our next young boy dreams of defeatingSalman Khan,in terms of popularity. We have seen him in shows Chintu Chinki Aur Badmash Company, Sankat Mochan HanumanandBhai Bhaiya Aur Brother but, we adore him as Lord Ganesha of Devon Ke Dev Mahadev. This seven year old year boy Sadhil Kapoor enjoys playing role of Ganesha the most and is fascinated with his long ears and trunk.
How can we forget the cutest trio of Ansh, Palak and Payal Sindhia from Punar Vivah. Divyam Dama aka Ansh had enchanted us with his performance in Balika Vadhu as well. This mischievous boy likes to study and does not want to be an actor once he grows up, though he enjoys acting. And did we not mention about the awesome twosome of our television Bhavesh Balchandani aka Ranvijay and Harshita Ojha aka Veera from the show Veera Ek Veer Ki Ardaas. This brother-sister relationship is one that makes you envy. Bhavesh started his career in television as one of the contestant of India’s Got Talent season 1 and displayed his dancing skills. We then got to see his acting skills in Phulwa.
While reading through this article you would have agreed to the fact that today there is no dearth of talent in Kiddos of our Television industry. You would have also realized that there are still many names which did not find a way in our writing. We feel that talking about all of them at one go will not do justice to their talents. It will be like filling ocean in a teacup. So, if you did not get to see your favorite child actor name in this list, please don’t feel disheartened. We would love to know who is your favorite child artist on Indian Television and will include them in next part of this article.
Do let us know your choice and we would love to pen them down for you. So, tell us your Views, Reviews, Suggestions and Remarks on Twitter-iDubba and set reminders for your favorite shows on iDubba app.
Before we move on to this interesting topic, let us take this opportunity to wish all you wonderful women out there “Happy Women’s Day“. Well, some might say that every day is Women’s Day, but one needs to celebrate it in a grand style. So, moving back to the topic for today’s post. We will be talking about Indian television actresses and their contribution to Indian television. Well, there is no doubt that their contribution is immense and has made a great impact on the audiences worldwide.
Let’s go back memory lane and relive some of the television actress and their contribution to Indian television industry. The current generation might know her as a host, a cricket host. But they might not know about her contribution to television prior to that. Yes, you guessed it right. Shanti – Ek Aurat Ki Kahani. It was aired on DD National in 1994, and was later shown on Indian television channel Star Plus. The series did star Mandira Bedi as Shanti in the main lead. It was first Indian television drama series, and had received loads of positive reviews and is still considered to be a classic show even in the current times.
The next show was based on 4 friends and about their joys and sorrows. It was an Indian soap opera that was aired on Zee TV channel and which ran for 5 years. Yes, you read it right, 5 yrs. We are talking about “Tara”. The series was known as the first ever Indian soap on contemporary urban women, and was the first Hindi language drama series. Navneet Nishan had portrayed the character of Tara. Just like Shanti, this role has made a huge impact on women and had managed connect with the audiences across all the sections of society.
The next actress was once India’s highest paid television soap opera actors. She is currently an active Politician and Social Worker. We are talking about Smriti Irani and her show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi on Star Plus. Did you know that almost everyone rejected her due to her looks but Ekta Kapoor, the producer of the show said “She is my Tulsi” and she was chosen to play the protagonist Tulsi. Interesting right? The character of Tulsi was an instant hit among every household and she was India’s favorite Bahu. The television audience would cry with her and would be happy when she was happy. That was the connection that Smriti had managed to do with her audience.
The next actress is best known for playing the role of Parvati Agarwal and Priya Kapoor in the television serials Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. Yes we are talking about Sakshi Tanwar. Her character as Parvati Agarwal is still been talked about in the industry and among the audiences. She was India’s favorite bhabhi, as she ruled the show right from 2000 – 2008. She was then back in limelight with the most talked about character in recent times, Priya Kapoor. The impact of that role had definitely made a positive impact in today’s society.
Shweta Tiwari was yet another actress whose role as Prerna in the TV show Kasautii Zindagii Ki managed to impress the audiences. Who can forget Mona Singh and her role in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin. Her innocent character of Jasmeet “Jassi” Walia , who is an unattractive nerd with braces over her teeth and an odd style of dressing did receive loads of appreciation from the audiences. The recent entry of Drashti Dhami and her role in Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon too is making an positive impact on television audiences. Did we mention Balika Vadhu? Well, who can forget the powerful role of Avika Gor as young Anandi and the elder Anandi aka Pratyusha Banerjee and Siddhi aka Keerti Nagpur from Parichay. Also, Disha Vakani aka Daya Jethalal Gada from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah are the ones that one can look forward to take ahead the legacy for fine actress in the television industry.
These actress and many others have surely taken a risk in choosing the character that they had portrayed. But the amount of hard work, dedication and conviction that they had, has made them reach the top of the television industry. It takes a lot of courage to play the characters that each one has done, and that is why they have made all the women proud and have given them inspiration and motivation to stand up and live with confidence. This post is just a small token of saying Thank You to all these women and many more who have contributed their bit. So on this note; we would like to again wish all the wonderful women out there – Happy Women’s Day. Tell us your Views, Reviews, Comments and Suggestions on Twitter-iDubba and set reminders for your favorite shows on iDubba app..

Balika Vadhu’s cast is the most loved one on Indian Television in the current times. The main protagonist Anandi aka Pratyusha Banerjee is the favorite bahu amongst all. Her adaptability of the character with utmost ease and warmth has made her so popular. I remember when there was a contest running on Colors to choose the elder Anandi, leaving behind the lineage of little Avika Gor, the whole nation voted for Pratyusha and she was crowned the role of the biggest icon of Indian daily soaps.
Pratyusha carried the role of Anandi in a dignified way and has succeeded in winning viewer’s hearts. We see Pratyusha as a typical ‘bahurani’ with lots of rona-dhona, but in real life, she is opposite. Pratyusha is a shopaholic who picks up whatever she feels like buying. She is an instant shopper who loves digging herself in bargaining too. It’s really nice to see her balancing reel and real life girl with so much elegance.
Balika Vadhu is known for Anandi’s struggle for life but without Dadi sa’s terror and impactful acting the show is incomplete. The senior most actor of this show Surekha Sikri has left no stone unturned to make this character so believable. She is the perfect choice to play such a powerful role, a woman who is strict a believer in traditional principles, so commanding that she threatens everyone. Surekha is depicting her role with great conviction, her clothes, body language is so impeccable that we can’t imagine anyone else in this role.
We have seen Surekha in very amicable characters in Saat Phere, Banegi Apni Baat etc. but the role of Kalyani presented a new Surekha in front of the audience. Indeed, it is a delight to see her on screen.
Balika Vadhu’s cast also boasts of having many talented actors Smita Bansal and AnoopSoni also need a mention here. These two actors have indeed left their mark in their characters of Sumitra and Bhairon respectively. Satyajit aka Basant is another actor in the show who has strikingly performed very well and deserves accolades for his impactful acting.
The male protagonist of the show Shashank Vyas aka Jagiya and Siddharth Shukla aka Shiv are also performing well and have passed the litmus test of the audience. The chemistry of both the male stars with Anandi received lots of positive response. In fact now it seems people have accepted Shiv with loving arms and will be happy to see Anandi getting married to him.
Bhairavi Raichura, Sadia Siddique and of course the most vocal bahu of the house Neha Marda or Gehna of Balika Vadhu have left a strong impact of their acting skills. Their scenes always had much weight-age needed to give impetus to the TRPS of this daily soap.
The credit to bring such a unique star cast goes to the think tanks behind the show. The writers and creative team spend many grueling sessions to select the actors and bring alive the characters in them.
We hope to see more daily soap like these in year 2013, which will dazzle talented actors on our TV screens.
The Wild Card special of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5, started with a dancing Manish and Ragini as the host. Later, not able to impress the Judges they shifted to a dramatic ‘Shyarana’ style making us confident that this episode of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 the Nautanki quotient will definitely be high.
The Wild Card 6 contestants were introduced as follows:
Mr.cool – Jai Soni with Bhavna Purohit
Cutest dude – Karan Wahi with Mohena Kumari
Joshile – Rithvik Dhanjani with Sneha
Teen sensation – Avika Gor with Sanam Johar
Sizzling Diva – Neha Bhasin with Cornel
Every family’s hot favourite – Rashmi Desi Sandhu with Deepak
Avika Gor: one of the most popular Bahu at age 11
Her AV was oozing with her confidence as she declares herself a threat to Darsheel and a ‘Chota packet Bada dhamaka.’
True to her AV she came out a full confident performer. Although she did not looked like a 15 year old, the innocence was missing but not the Baby fat .
Rajasthani costumes??? On ‘Jaali toh Bhuji na’ song, somehow it didn’t make any sense. We agree that dupatta was used as a prop, but it could have been any other dress’s dupatta. Or maybe it was to bail on the Balika Vadhu popularity quotient.
The Judges appreciated the confidence; Madhuri called her ‘A Teekhi Mirchi’ and warned Darsheel. Remo felt that the use of dupatta was innovative but it was also a source of error in the performance.
It starts with a solo performance of digiting by Jai. The performance had a glimpse of Digiting and other smaller elements making it beautiful. A Red handkerchief was used as a prop, travelling between Jai, Bhavna and back.
The Judges were escalated by the confidence and didn’t feel that it was Jai’s first attempt at the stage of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5. While Remo felt a glimpse of smart choreography, but the lifts were a little clumsy and for Madhuri his face had magic.
Karan Wahi: – The Chocolate Boy
The act started with soft music and steps around the Table and as it progressed aggression came into the music and choreography…..nice choreography. Karan pulls/throw his girl on to the table and lifts her as if she weighs nothing.
We loved the costume specially the pink top of Mohena. What shall we say to Karan’s shirt; he tore his shirt towards the end in fulltoo hero style (hair flying and all) and picks his lady in his arm.
Madhuri gets worried about the ‘Dolewala (Gurmeet)’ believing that if Karan joins the stage of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 this Dolewala would be a threat. For Remo it was a Wow performance by two good looking people in good shape and using it to their benefit.
Karan dramatically states ‘that it felt like an introduction of a hero by his established father as there was a mix of everything – soft Romance, Aggression, Dance and Expressions.’
Neha Bhasin – Hot Singer and Performer.
First question – what was she wearing, it made her look like a fit fat girl… but what is worn is worn. She tapped her foot on a mix of ‘crazy kiya re’ music and ‘dhunki’s’ lyrics with confidence. It was a graceful power pact performance including the booty shake.
The best part of Neha’s performance was her expressions and the interaction with the audience by winking. Even Remo agreed with this, he said that “that usually hip hop is done with blank expression to concentrate on steps but here her face was as active as the steps. If the gaps between lifts have been fulfilled it would have been a better performance.
The Booty shake became Madhuri’s hot favourite from Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5, Remo enjoyed Neha’s winking and Karan went ahead and said that it was an exceptionally spirited performance and Katrina even did not have these expressions…
Rashmi Desai Sandhu: Tapasya
The beginning of the act declared the return of Deepak and Rashmi flies down to say that this time she is along with him. They performed a fast, energetic, strong and nonstop on the beats of ‘khalaas’. The whole performance was a cocktail of Locking, Popping, Tutting, Crumping and Salsa.
The background was a spider with his web and according to me it should have been a Scorpio, it could have portrayed there theme better. The grungy tough look of the performers was complimented with blue elbow bands and bandages on all fingers.
‘Rashmi means business (in a good way)’ was the thought of Madhuri. Remo loved the performance and the blend of everything proving that Deepak can choreograph and Rashmi can perform anything. She might be the biggest threat to everyone… Karan protectively defended his current team of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 by stating that ‘woh bhi aapko Takkar ka competition denge’.
He started off with a Solo Tutting session in all his Dude Avataar…with a hat and a jacket hip hop look was completed and performed beautifully, with the initiation of Salsa, the hat and Jacket were gone but not the smoothness of his performance and the lifts.
He was a Tornado according to Madhuri, she ‘Loved it (raise to the power 4)’. Remo appreciated the confidence and complicated lifts. Karan being his dramatic self did the exercise for the week as for him it was like running a treadmill.
Rithvik said in his Av that he wants to show that he can dance and man he can dance !!
Remember we said that two participants were to be selected from the six, but three were selected. The mystery of that was unfolded with the tie between two for the second position so Judges decided to bring all three aboard to the Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 Brigade:
Rithvik being on the first position
KaranWahi and RashmiDesai shared the second position
The result of this episode of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa was already disclosed to our audiences before hand, but something that was not disclosed was the Jhalak Quotient of this episode, so here we go:
Smartly Dressed Ki Jhalak: A new entry to our listing all thanks to Manish and Remo. We believe Manish got tired of Bharti’s joke on his ensembles and decided to dress unlike a waiter or a receptionist . Remo’s Jacket had a texture that will swipe your away from his face looks like Troy Costa’s magic worked on him.
Nautanki Ki Jhalak: Manish had all the chance to take pot shots on all the participants this episode and since he was dressed well today, how could he miss this Golden Chance to increase the Nautanki on Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5.
So on behalf of Competition spirit he explained the unmasked feelings of the participants for the new wild card participant – JaiSoni
Gurmeet – he said that Jai did very well…according to Manish he meant – “main bhi baghvan Ram hoon tujhe pe hanuman se keh ke pahar na gidaye toh kehna.”
Salman – competition is fun bring it on – he meant –“tumhari waat hum isi manch pe lagayenge.”
The next was Rapid fire with KaranWahi –
His Inspiration in Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 – Gurmeet his growth has been phenomenal (we loved the fact that Ravi turned to Gurmeet and agreed to this <3)
Attractive competitor: IshaShervani – so he sang a song for her ‘ek ajnabi haseena se’ and as if on cue Isha blushes all she could manage to say was Thank You, you danced well. Salman could hold a secret no longer that Isha feels Men don’t hit on me… to that Isha shuts his mouth with her hand and Manish says if Ravi’s, Punit and his efforts were all in vain. To stop all this Karan Johar smartly interrupts that it is Jhalak Dikhla Jaa not Isha Ka Swayambar.
TREND Ki Jhalak: It feels like Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 is initiating a new Trend… loose suspenders. In Rajesh Khanna special Giaa had red loose suspenders and here Karan Wahi had pink suspenders loosely hung.
Pressure Ki Jhalak: An Audio visual at the start of the episode shows how the original Participants of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 felt about the wild card entry reaction…they openly announced ‘bacchekijaanlogekya.’ A similar Av during the end of the episode announced their extra efforts now the competition is getting tough.
In the end Madhuri very rightly quoted ‘Jeet usi ki hogi jo jeet ke sabse kabil hoga.’ So all the best to all Jhalak Dikhla Jaa season 5 contestants, no matter how tough the competition is just have a blast because we will have a blast to watch you only then. Till then we will be waiting, watching and writing
This week Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 would be Extra special, not just because of the new faces that will be entering the competition but for the Theme of this week’s Episode.
The Theme is the talk of the town – last night episode was dedicated to RajeshKhanna the first SuperStar of Bollywood. The demise of RajeshKhanna has spread a wave of loss over the film and television fraternity. This week all participants of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 will dance on Rajesh Khanna’s ever beautiful songs and take us all down the memory lane. If our audience wants to witness and enjoy those memories keep Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 on your must watch list.
Our sources have informed that three Jodis have been added to Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5’s stage. The initial plan was to add just two contenders, so what made Jhalak Dikhla Jaa team to change their mind. For that we have to wait for today’s episode but our reader’s don’t have to wait for the names of selected three contenders:
KaranWahi (he will dance on a mix of fast and slow track of Ishaqzaade…..)
These three will now be seen dancing with the remaining nine celebrities. Unfortunately NehaBhasin, JaySoni and AvikaGor could not make it far, but a little birdie has told us that their performances were not as sad as the results. Seeing the pictures above of their performances we believe the news.
While the new entries have to fill in quite big shoes as IshaSharvani, GurmeetChaudhary and Shibani Dandekar have been successful in winning the judges and audience’s hearts by their performances and last weekend Giaa also joined this brigade of the 30’s.
The old contenders cannot lay back either, Karan and Rashmi has been part of dance reality shows and have had performed well. Rithvik is a trained dancer himself and was roped in place of Eijaz Khan who has been known for his dancing but could not join Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 due to date issues.
Well who will complete the journey Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 and who will step out at exit stations is known by none. If there is something to know for sure… is that Jhalak Dikhla Jaa Season 5 is going to gift you a full on Jhalak of Dance, Drama, Entertainment, Comedy etc…and we promise to review and report all these to you.
