Colors is once again on the reinvention bandwagon with its new show, which looks and sounds as bright and chirpy as possible. Call her Pam or Pamy, but to the first timers, she would be known as ‘Mrs. Pammi Pyarelal’ on Colors.

Primarily a rom-com, the show ‘Mrs. Pammi Pyarelal’ is all about a guy, who is desperately looking for some accommodation in the city of Mumbai. In an effort to bag an apartment and impress the landlady’s only requirement of being a married couple, the guy goes about convincing his male friend, to don him up as a ‘woman’ and get the accommodation.

Although, a little quirky and naughty, the show is all set to woo the audience, with clean humor. Gaurav Gera has been roped in to play the lead role of ‘Mrs.Pammi pyarelal’, while Vindhya Tiwari, Karan Mehra and Mazhar Sayeed play the supporting cast. Veteran actor, Rohini Hattangadi, will also be seen in a plum role, donning the role of the landlady, in the show.

Like other shows, the serial is set for some romance against the odds as well. In fact, Vindhya Tiwari of ‘Maryada’ fame is all set to play a romantically opposite one the male leads. She plays the eldest daughter of the landlady in the show. Hence, we can expect some obvious romantic scenes, added with loads of humor and fun!

Although the show is catching a lot of attention through its quirky and fun filled promos, the release date of the show still remains unknown. However, if you are dying to watch the first look of the show on Colors, simply stay tuned, to the latest updates on the show.

[To set reminder and check TV schedule of Comedy Nights with Kapil click here..]

We all love Kapil Sharma and now he is ready to give us maximum dose of entertainment by producing his own show- Comedy Nights with Kapil.

Actor-comedian Kapil will mark his debut as a producer with this show which will be aired on Colors. He will be seen donning multiple avatars – actor, scriptwriter and producer in his home production.

Well it seems that Comedy Circus has made him rich. Of course he deserves what he has achieved by his hard work. Kapil had won many seasons of Comedy Circus and we all know his comic timing is amazing!

So, there will be now a non-stop roller coaster ride for viewers who love comedy. The baap of comedy on television will woo them by his mad family.

His look in it will be of a cop, which might remind the viewers of Salman Khan’s character from the film Dabangg (2010).

Names like Ali Asgar, Upasana Singh, Sunil Grover and Sumona Chakravarti have joined Kapil Sharma in Comedy Nights. The show, loosely based on the British comedy ‘The Kumars At No. 42‘, will be a unique take on everyday life.

The show will see Kapil having an in-house studio, which will have a celebrity coming in every week who will be interviewed by Kapil’s family — his wife, played by Sumona Chakravarti. While Upasana Singh will play the eccentric bua, Sunil Grover will be donning several avatars throughout the series. Ali Asgar, who is an expert in sporting a lady’s garb, will now take on the role of Kapil’s grandmother, dadiji. OMG! I am already giggling thinking about their wacky ideas. I am sure you guys are gonna love this!

If these names by any chance don’t tickle your funny bone then let us inform you that Navjot Singh Siddhu will also be seen in this show to race the meter of comedy .

Comedy Nights with Kapil, slated to be aired over the weekends in June on Colors channel, will see Siddhu engage in a fun banter with comedian Kapil Sharma. “I’ve worked with Kapil earlier and it feels great to be back together,” says the 49-year-old Amritsar MP, adding, “The show is a comic take on everyday life, and Kapil and his family will be seen giving their bits about all that is happening around.”

Kapil Sharma’s hands are full as he will also be seen hosting the new season of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa on the same channel with Manish Paul. iDubba wishes Kapil lot of luck for his new venture! Hope his show sets new standards of comedy. Do share your views and feedback about this show on Twitter-iDubba and set reminders for your favorite shows on iDubba app..

A New trend on TV!!! Pets on TV Soaps to add freshness to the Story.

Do you remember the real hero of classic Hum Aapke Hain Kaun - the sweet little pup named Tuffy? I just adored him and wondered if any such cuties will appear on our idiot box as well. Guess the thoughts knocked some minds and amidst the iconic Saas-Bahu saga and hate-love-hate equations; it is a refreshing break to have new members joining us at prime time. We are not talking about some animal planet type shows or shows for children. We are talking about our very own dailies.

It never felt out of league when Naksh demanded for a pet dog. His family, just like many of ours, had their reservations for the same. But than no reservations could stand tall when charming Puchki Goldy entered the sets of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.

Even Kokila ben of Saath Nibhana Saathiya had to bow down to accept cutie pups Champ in her house. Rashi became proud mother of these puppies. They could sense the upcoming danger and warned Rashi to save Meera from it. Though their onscreen presence was fleeting, yet their cameo had added a new vibrancy in the tale.

If Champ can sense danger, Chiku from the show Anamika can sense paranormal activities more easily than the rest of the crew on the show. He is the real superstar of the show…. Ooops …..I mean the super dog of the show. This cuddly black dog gets enough footage onscreen to keep the viewers glued to their screens.

Sheru track in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah not just added another comedy tadka in the track but was also propitious for the show. With this track the TRP of the show surged landing it in top 3 show slots. Sheru became a family member of evergreen Gokuldham society, so much so that the family did not even hesitate in declaring prize money for their lost dog.

And last but not the least; it is raining dogs on the sets of Chhanchhan. Be it dhyan mein magnn Dhyanchand, cadenced Anarkali, royal Jahapana or the cutest of the lot Puchpuch…..Oh man … the team indeed did an outstanding job in their selection. We hear that the casting of the show got delayed because of the stretched out dog auditions.

The producer claims that two of the canines can actually even cry. Who the hell wants to see them crying? We toh love them for bringing in fun n frolic in the scenes by stirring up fights between Chhanchhan and the male lead of the show. Right readers?

Any successful formula soon becomes a trend in our TV industry. Guess now it’s time for pet tales on the shows. They not only bring in a new kind of relationship in the existing equations but are proving healthy for the TRPs. Let’s wait for the next new pet on our TV. Till then, do let us know who is your favourite pet – Puchki Goldy, Champ, Chiku, Sheru, Dhyanchand, Anarkali, Jahapana or Puchpuch? Tell us your Views, Reviews, Comments and Suggestions on Twitter-iDubba and set reminders for your favorite shows on iDubba app..

Comedy Central all set for Brand New Shows tonight- Whitney and Up All Night. Are you ready?

Comedy Central is all set to launch two new shows on Indian Television. Off Lately Comedy Central is slowly but steadily launching news shows in order to impress the audiences. Since couple of months new shows such as Suits, Anger Management and Wedding Band were launched. So, let’s get back to the two news shows that will soon hit your television sets.

The first one is an American sitcom “Whitney“. The show has Whitney Cummings, comedian, actor who also created the hit sitcom “2 Broke Girls. Talking about the story, well, Whitney Cummings, will be portraying a fictionalized version of herself, who has very supportive live-in boyfriend, Alex. Did you read live-in? Well, yes, you read it right. The character of Alex Miller will be played by Chris D’Elia. Even though the two have decided that they will not commit to marriage, she does question how committed they are in their 3-year relationship and tries to go as far to prove a point. Interesting right?

Well, soon she begins to fear what she sees as “relationship boredom” and worries what will happen next that could possibly end their relationship. And to add to this, she sees and hears around her involving other relationships, she uses unconventional methods to keep the romantic flames glowing with Alex, often seeking the help of her close friends. It will be interesting to see what all things she ends up doing to keep the romantic flame on with Alex. The sitcom is set in Chicago. Well, it will be also interesting to see the bond between these two characters and the ups and downs in their relationship. So are you excited for this new show?

The second show is an American television comedy series “Up All Night“. The plot of the story is also as interesting as the title of the show. Most of the parents will be able to relate to this new show. The show will revolve around Reagan, played by Christina Applegate, who is a producer on her best friend Ava’s talk show.

Ava’s character is played by Maya Rudolph. And Chris, played by Will Arnett, who is Reagan’s supportive, stay-at-home type husband, as they try to adjust to life with their newborn baby Amy. It sounds complicated. Well, let us make it simple. Reagan and her husband are happy parents of their new born baby. But as Reagan tries to be a perfect wife, mother and career woman, she ends up facing loads of obstacles. It will be interesting to see how Reagan manages this tough task and how Chris supports her in all these activities.

So, are you all set to catch these two new shows on Comedy Central? All you need to do is watch them from 8th April at 10:00pm and 10:30pm respectively. Don’t forget to set a reminder using our iDubba app and follow us on Twitter for regular updates.

Where is the humor? (Comedy shows drying up on Indian TV)

If you are also not able to find humor in our comedy shows then you are definitely in the category where people are waiting for good and ‘clean’ comedy on Indian television and if you have already find it then please share what I am missing. Oh yes… and if in case you ask me to switch on to latest shows on SAB TV then I agree there are two or three good shows which are worth giving time like Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashmah and recently launched R.K. Laxman Ki Duniya. However all the remaining shows fail to impress even a bit.

Apparently the Indian Television industry was expected to grow over 500 billion by the end of 2011 and currently it has over 500 channels broadcasted. But I still find dearth of substance in our tv shows. For example comedy shows which are my all time favourite are definitely way too below the level of good comedy or sitcom shows. Let us take a look at the journey of Indian television in terms of comedy shows in last 28 years.

Yeh Jo hai Zindagi was India’s first sitcom aired in 1984 on Doordarshan. The show written by comedy writer Sharad Joshi was such a huge hit that even box-office openings in cinemas were affected due to the airing of the show because it aired on Friday nights. Then came the ‘era’ in 1993 of two most widely admired comedy shows ever in the history of Indian television: Dekh Bhai Dekh and Zabaan Sambhalke. I am sure that these two names certainly brings a big smile on everyone’s face and those unforgettable characters like Balraj Diwan (Navin Nischol), Samir Diwan (Shekhar Suman), Gareema (Deven Bhojani), Mohan Bharti (Pankaj Kapoor) and many other became an integral part of our lives. Within two years Doordarshan launched another hilarious comedy Srimaan Srimati in 1995 that gave India one of its favourite characters ‘Dilruba’. Simultaneously Zee TV launched its most popular comedy show till date Hum Paanch in 1995. Another hit show Padosan was launched on DD Metro in 1998. All these have left a legacy behind them and I can’t find any show matching up to their level currently or in these all years.

In modern day classics i can count Office Office easily which was launched in 2001 on SAB TV. This hugely popular and admired sitcom was based on corruption and bribery in public offices. The story revolved around Mussadilal (Bollywood actor Pankaj Kapoor) who was often harshly greeted by the corrupt officials. “Mussadilal” was the favourite character of viewers for a very long period and we remember him fresh as ever even now.

Now coming back to today’s topic of this post “Why comedy shows are drying up on Indian television”? Honestly after all these years finally in 2005 I thought that there is a chance that Indian comedy can get back to track when a new reality comedy show “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge” was launched. The Star One’s laughter show won millions of hearts and before we knew there were four seasons in their kitty. The laughter challenge gave way to all these shows on “Comedy Circus” that are aired on Sony TV regularly. However the quality of the comedians and their so called “punches” has deteriorated immensely. In terms of another blogger whose post I read the other day “the contestants of these shows grew up with time and became big-time perverts”. The reality comedy shows today are nothing but a sign toward the hypocrisy of Indian television that call these laughter shows full of double-meaning jokes family shows.

So what is the exact reason? Are we short of good comedy writers, or we are short of good character artists who can do good comedy or it is just the mindset that is not able to accept some clean and good talent? Tell us your views if you have answer to these questions. :)
