Man I am definitely feeling lazy…. And it seems that our Television is in support with my notion. It’s a relaxed, Lazy weekend on the brink.

Don’t worry, by relax , I positively don’t mean boring….. How can that be, our channels and our favorite weekend shows won’t let that happen. But to give you space to enjoy the changing weather and the onset of rains, the channels have taken a little slow ride with the shows.

But the slow ride isn’t that slow at all… With amazing performances awaiting you on your favorite Reality Shows by the contestants and the special guest… With movie premieres… With special inside out interviews… With sports… With all this and more is awaiting you, the speed is steady and the entertainment is aimed at relaxed and fun.

Go ahead and take a look at a relaxed weekend guide after so long.

  • Arjun – Missing lady and a found hand

When a hand is found in the fishermen’s village, the ETF is called for investigation. The ETF reveals that the hand belonged to a man called Deshu. This man was also in love with a girl called Anjali and she has gone missing. The ETF needs to uncover the mystery behind the murder of the man and Anjali’s disappearance.

Is it beyond a simple case of honor killing or ETF is again under deep waters to discover something shocking? Will Arjun be able to find out the mystery behind the murder of the man? Will Arjun be able to trace Anjali who is missing? To find out, stay tuned to Arjun.

Last week we saw the top 12 of the top 24 contestants battle it out to make it to the next round. The competition was intense! In all 6 contestants made it to the next round. There were tears, fractured bones and broken hearts, but the show continued inspite of it.

Bade Achhe Lagte Hain completes 2 years!

The family drama, ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain’ on Sony, which captured attention, due to its un-contemporary feel in its love story, finally got noticed once again! This time the reason is the show’s 2 years successful journey. The audience, right from the start was bowled with the sweet and magical chemistry between the unpretentious couple Ram and Priya, who were poles apart from each other.

It was the couple’s sweet nok-jhoks and lots of silent love, which charmed millions across the nation. Right from the time the duo met, fought, tied the knot, separated to the current scenario of progressive family expansion, the audience has stuck with Ram and Priya in all their good and bad times in the past 2 years.

The show had begun with the match fixing between Ram and Priya, who were complete opposite to each other. While Ram was a morbidly obese successful bussiness man, Priya was a middle aged tutor. Despite oddities, the duo strikes a chemistry and fall in love.

The show initially had more family drama involving Priya and Ram’s marital relation and further discord with Niharika’s (Ram’ step mother) death. However, the audience felt saddened at the tragic turn of events when Priya was sentenced to 14 years of jail and further pushed into separation, by leaving for Dubai.

The second part or rather the new beginning was thrown 5 years forward, with Priya as a mother, handling her book shop business in a mall in Dubai. Life again brings her face to face with Ram, who had remained unaware of their daughter and love and familial relations blossom once again for the better.

Sometime later, the show propelled to the rosy picture of the trio living under the same roof, with harmony. Currently, the family drama has more of twists and spark with new characters, conspiracies and lots of rumored love affairs.

Despite the odds, the audience seems to love every bit of Ram and Priya’s life and craves for more. The certification is well seen through the successful completion of the show’s 2 years!

Youth shows taking lead on Music Channels like MTV and Channel V!

Music to melodrama- the transition of music channels to youth oriented general entertainment channels is purely based on the game of TRPs. We all know MTV and Channel V are the two dominant music channels in India. Since two years these channels have changed their programming content to great extent slowly.

Earlier there were songs which were ruling these channels but the business started declining as there was mushrooming of hundreds of channels which were serving music to audience.

MTV started a series of reality shows like Roadies and Splitsvilla and gained lot of TRPs which came from the young audiences. Following the footsteps channel V came out with few reality dramas based on love, dating and friendship such as ” Dare 2 Date”, “Axe Ur Ex”, “Agent Love”, “Love Net” and ” Roomies”. These were not enough for Channel V to gain momentum over its competitors. Hence concept of fusing drama of daily soaps into fiction shows came that was targeted to youths.

“We wanted to move out of music as we realized that as a business, it was not making sense at all. The way people are consuming music has changed now. We thought there are multiple ways where we can connect to the youth and also grow our market share considerably,” says Prem Kamath, the channel’s executive vice president and general manager.

No wonder the channel is now replete with shows like ” The Buddy Project“, “Dil Dosti Dance“, “Suvreen Guggal – Topper of The Year” and ” Best Friends Forever”, which offer light-hearted fictional content, surrounding teenage and youth issues. It is a departure from the music countdowns, and video jockey-led music shows that were a hit in the 1990s.

Youth don’t want to waste their time in watching saas bahu ka rona dhona so they tune into V or MTV for their daily dose of entertainment to which they feel connected. In this age of technology, music is readily available on IPods, Ipads, You Tube hence they don’t need a music channel.

To fill the void of content music channels are now depended on Youth based daily soaps. Channel V is now coming up with a new show Crazy Stupid Ishq which will revolve around 4 young people and their love stories.

MTV on the other hand is trying and testing at what they are best- creating youth based reality shows with all the ingredients of love, envy, lies, adventure and opinions. This channel has a pool of shows like Roadies, Splitsvilla, Campus Diaries, Unplugged, Panga ON and Reality Stars.

Both the channels have their niche audiences but Channel V is leading because of its serial based youth shows which are a huge hit among their target audiences.

Recently, the channel’s shows ” Gumrah” and “The Buddy Project” won the best non-fiction and the best fiction show, respectively, at the Indian Telly Awards.

Their team experimented with this genre of entertainment shows and now there is no looking back for them.

Funda is clear, money and TRPs are bread & butter for these channels, they will serve what people want to watch. I am sure in future there will be influx of more and more of such daily dramas on all the leading music channels. Channel V has indeed set a benchmark for all.
